There are few important traditions during the celebration of the Easter Holidays in Bulgaria. Apart from fasting for about 50 days before Easter during the Holy Week there are also some interesting rituals going on.

For example we paint the eggs and bake the special Easter cake either on Thursday or Saturday before Easter. On Good Friday we don’t do anything, that’s why it is an official non working day.

Then on Saturday against Sunday we go to the neighborhood church and at midnight we go around the church three times as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. And after that we start fighting with the Easter eggs.

On Sunday we have a special Easter lunch and we usually eat lamb meat.

What:
Orthodox Easter Traditions

When:
12 Apr. 2015

Location:
Club Studio 5 – National Palace of Culture, entrance A3
